Skiing across Baikal

Skiing and sightseeing on Lake Baikal

Duration: 7 days, 6 nights
Dates: on request from February 7 to April 3  (on Thursdays)

Day Itinerary Notes

 1 Day (Thu)

Arrival in Irkutsk. Meeting and assistance for further transfer to hotel.  Check in and time at leisure.  Meals at your own expenses. City tour on request. (With early arrival in case there are no free rooms in hotel you might have to wait for check in hours 12:00)

2 Day

After breakfast a van will drive us to the starting point of the trip – a small train station on the TranSiberain railroad. A picturesque 15 km long ski track runs down a river valley right to Baikal Lake.  There will be a number of slopes with sharp turnings were one should be careful to stay on the track.
A short break for lunch and from there we’ll ski another 10 km on the ice of Baikal to small village called Angasolka. Overnight in a log cabin. (BLD)

3 Day

Breakfast. At about 11:00 we’ll catch a small tourist train that runs along the legendary Circum Baikal railroad.  The train moves really slowly so you’ll have plenty time to appreciate both Siberian nature and the old tunnels and bridges.   Lunch will be served in train. At about 7 p.m you’ll reach the Angara river source – the only river that flows out of the mighty Baikal. Dinner and overnight in a guest house in Port Baikal village. (BLD)

 * The Circum Baikal railroad undoubtedly is one of the main attractions of the South of Lake Baikal. Build at the end of Russian Royalism and called the golden Buckle of Siberia it nowadays has become an open air museum or Russian architecture and marvels of construction ingenuity.

4 Day

After breakfast we’ll walk across the ice to Listvyanka village that is located on the opposite side of Angara river source. Leave our things in a cozy guest house and walk to the center of the village to have lunch in a café and visit the Baikal museum.  Dinner will be served in your guest house. (BD)

5 Day

After early breakfast we’ll set off for a long day trip to cross lake Baikal from West to East (40 km total). Depending on the ice condition we can walk either on foot or on skis. (*).
As we reach the eastern shore a mini bus will pick us up and drive to Sludynaka village (about 1,5 hour) for dinner and overnight. (BLD)

* A snowmobile can be used to tow the group in case we are behind schedule.
