International Conference (5 - 7 June 2006, Ekaterinburg)

The Ural State Forest Engineering University (Ekaterinburg, Russia), the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology (Ekaterinburg, Russia),  the V.N. Sukachev Institute of Forest (Krasnoyarsk, Russia) and the Swiss Federal Institute WSL (Birmensdorf, Switzerland) are organizing  the International Conference “Climate Changes and Their Impact On Boreal and Temperate Forests”. It will be held 5-7 June 2006 in Ekaterinburg, Russia, in Ural State Forest Engineering University (st. Sibirski trakt, 36; USFEU Palace of Culture). The main aims of the Conference are to exchange the newest results of investigations relating to climate-depending changes in boreal and temperate forest ecosystems and to encourage international collaboration in this field of knowledge.

After the Conference, all participants are invited to take part in a day sightseeing excursions and in a 3-day scientific excursion to the mountains in the Southern Ural.
During the scientific excursion you will be introduced to taiga, forest-steppe and highland landscapes of the Iremel’ massif (1582 m a.s.l.), which is located 400 km south-west of Ekaterinburg. It is one of the investigation objects (study plots installed by IPAE and USFEU). The points from which old (1927-1956) landscape photos were taken will be visited. The distinct reaction of a forest tundra ecotone to climate changes of the last century will be presented.
