This small town on the Tura River was once the most important centre of Christianity in eastern Russia. Today it has about adozen cathedrals, churches and monasteries. The main cathedral is second in size only to St Isaac's in St Petersburg. In time of this excursion you’ll get acquainted with the history of the town of Verkhotourie (its origin dates back 400 years), which is located 300 km north from Ekaterinburg. You will get to know the history of the town: its formation and development as a spiritual pivot of the Urals.
You will see architectural monuments on the territory of Complex of Verkhoturie’s Kremlin, which attribute to number of bright monuments of Russian town-planning of boundary of XVII-XVIIIth centuries. At present the complex of Verkhoturie’s Kremlin includes Saint-Trinity Cathedral, House of Voevode, departmental halls, corn barns, Building of Treasure, fortification walls. Saint-Trinity Cathedral is pearl of ensemble of Kremlin. Temple is prominent monument of church architecture of Ural. Stone building of Cathedral was laid in 1703 year with metropolitan of Siberian and Tobolsk Filoret’s blessing. Temple was built in 1709 year by abbot of Verkhoturie’s monastery archimandrite Israel. Reconstruction of temple was finished at 1995 year.
